CALL FOR PAPERS for the 25th Annual World Convention of the Association for the Study of Nationalities (ASN)
DEADLINE: 6 November 2019
The 25th World Convention of the Association for the Study of Nationalities will take place 7-9 May 2020, at the Harriman Institute, Columbia University, NYC.
Every year, the Convention unites 750+ scholars, from 50+ countries, specialising in disciplines across the social sciences and humanities.
ASN is currently welcoming proposals on a wide range of topics related to nationalism, national identity, ethnicity, race, conflict and migration in regional sections of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe, or cross-regional sections on nationalism and migration/diasporas.
We invite proposals in six different categories: Paper; Panel; Roundtable; Documentary Film; Book Panel; and Discussant Proposals.
In 2020, ASN will host: Over 150 panels and events across 11 sections:
- Nationalism Studies
- Migration/Diasporas
- Balkans
- Central Europe
- Ukraine
- Russia
- Caucasus
- Eurasia (Central Asia and China)
- Turkey (and Greece)
- Book Panels
- World Documentary Films
With 5 specific thematic sections:
- Populism, Radicalism, Extremism
- The Refugee Crisis
- Historical and Political Memory
- Political Violence
- The Russia/Ukraine Conflict
In addition to the thematic sections above, popular themes over the years have included gender, language, religion, EU integration/exit, security, nation-building, energy politics, parties and elections, youth, media, and civil society.
