NISE Declaration on Ukraine
In line with the statements of ALLEA[1], the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, NISE reacts with shock and sadness to Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. NISE fully supports the statements of the international academic community acknowledging the danger this represents to the Ukrainian scientific community, its national cultural heritage and the Ukrainian population.
NISE, non-political though it is as an association, condemns the Russian government’s unilateral attacks on a sovereign state and its reckless disregard for democracy, peace, human rights and international law. NISE voices its moral support for our Ukrainian members, both institutions and individuals, as well as for the colleagues in Russia and Belarus who have courageously raised their voices against this attack; we do so in the knowledge that political and academic freedom are inseparable, and that without a shared commitment to these values, international cooperation is impossible.
