NISE Annual Gathering 2018
The NISE Annual Gathering for 2018 is held on 18 and 19 September, followed by an international conference on cultural mobilization which runs until 22 September. Venue is the University of Amsterdam, with Joep Leerssen as host.
Besides the usual meetings of the Scientific Council and the non-profit association’s General Assembly as well as a plenary Members’ Meeting, Amsterdam wil see the launch of the Heritage Core Group of NISE. A guest lecture is given by Athena S. Leoussi (University of Reading) on the relation between art and nationalism. See here for the program.
The subject of the lecture announces the major international conference on Cultural mobilization: Cultural consciousness-raising and national movements in Europe and the world. The conference is organised by SPIN in association with ASEN and NISE. See more at www.spinnet.eu/SPIN2018. An impressive product of the SPIN project is the ERNIE (Encyclopedia of Romantic Nationalism in Europe) database. The book version has now appeared with Amsterdam University Press, see www.spinnet.eu/activities/erniethebook.
The Annual Gathering signals the start of a new stage in the development of the association, with more emphasis than ever before on the raison d’être of NISE: the sources, in different meanings of the concept, related to national movements (data / studies / archives), corresponding to the instruments established during the first phase of NISE (DIANE, SoN, EIC).
