Researching the history of national movements
A full account of the context, aims and framework of NISE has been published (in Dutch; an English language version will follow shortly). The publication reviews the current research on national movements and describes the scientific environment necessary to stimulate the comparative historiography of those movements.

This publication offers a full account of the context, aims and framework of NISE. It contains the following parts:
– a review of the theories on nationalism, with selective references to the scientific publications;
– a survey of the causes for success for the national movements, i.e. the circumstances and the actions, in each case with selective references to the scientific publications on the subject;
– a presentation of the scientific methodology, i.e. comparative historiography;
– an account of the framework of the NISE project.
