New members
The NISE Network has recently seen two valuable additions, respectively a working group specialised in the history of the political organisation of sovereignty (GRENS) and the leading French institute on Celtic Studies in general and Breton culture and history in particular (CRBC). The Scientific Council also welcomes a new member, Laurence Cole from the University of Salzburg.
GRENS (Grup de Recerca en Estats, Nacions i Sobiranies) is a research platform attached to the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona (Spain). Its research area concerns contemporary history and the political, social and cultural processes involved. It specifically studies all emanations of sovereignty from state to nation, with emphasis on federalism, determining similarities and differences through comparison. To gather information on the different forms of political organisation, it makes use of all kind of materials (press, archives, images, popular culture sources etc.).
The Centre de Recherche Bretonne et Celtique / Kreizenn an Enklaskou Breizek ha Keltiek (CRBC/KEBK), established in 1969 in Brest, coordinates Breton and Celtic studies in France, assembling researchers and lecturers from the universities of Brest and Rennes 2. With the help of a unique documentary collection, the centre produces work on historical, linguistic, literary and ethnological topics. It also runs a centre on oral history.
Laurence Cole, professor at the department of History of the Universität Salzburg (Austria), has recently joined the Scientific Council of NISE. His research interests includes, besides the Habsburg Monarchy and German and Italian history in the 19th and 20th century, nationalism and collective identities.
