The publication concluding a project on the situation for the archives of parties assembled in the European Free Alliance (EFA) is now available.

Over the last three years NISE has carried out the project funded by the European Parliament at the behest of the Centre Maurits Coppieters (CMC). The project resulted, besides the publication, also in a database and an archival manual. For more information, click here.

The publication was drawn from the comprehensive report made with the help of surveys, interviews and visits on location. It is published as second issue of the NISE Proceedings series, with the title: The need for and the needs of archives. Guide to the archives of the member parties of the European Free Alliance.

The first part consists of a general introduction to archival history and its relation to national movements. It also describes the method by which the required information was being gathered, processed and presented.

The survey findings itself and the conclusions based upon them, form the central part of the book.

For the benefit of the many non-professional archivists of party archives, the third and final part provides a number of recommendations answering to different aspects of archival care and management, as well as a plan for a set of structural and internationally coordinated and supported measures to be taken by party archives. A call for archival awareness concludes the publication.
