Second NISELecture on national museums
The second NISELecture will be delivered by prof. dr. Peter Aronsson on 27 March 2014 in Antwerp. The subject is the role played by national museums in identity formation in Europe.
Identity is made out of culture. National museums are a highly institutionalised presentations of knowledge, worldview and community, formatting a cultural constitution that interacts with political constitution. The way these tasks are performed contribute to the ability of communities to create trust and deal with conflicts. The talk will discuss the historic and future role of museums in the making of successful cultural constitutions.
Peter Aronsson is a historian and currently dean of the faculty for Arts and Humanities at Linnæus University (Lnu) in Sweden. He was coordinator of the European project EUNAMUS on the role of national museums in the formation of national identities (cf. www.eunamus.eu).
